San Francisco Fishing Reports

San Francisco Fishing Report

Fishing in San Francisco Bay has been excellent, with anglers landing halibut, striped bass, and rockfish in great numbers. The recent warm weather has improved bait activity, drawing in more fish to the shallower waters. Offshore, lingcod fishing trips in San Francisco have been highly productive, with plenty of quality-sized catches. For those heading further out, San Francisco deep sea fishing has delivered solid action on bluefin tuna and rockfish, making this a prime time to book a trip. Crabbing remains steady, and California crabbing charters continue to yield full pots of delicious Dungeness crab.

We get these questions frequently. What fish are currently biting in San Francisco Bay? Right now, halibut, striped bass, and rockfish are the most active in the bay, while offshore waters are producing lingcod and bluefin tuna. What’s the best fishing trip for beginners? A San Francisco halibut fishing trip or a rockfish fishing charter in SF Bay is perfect for beginners due to the high catch rates and calmer waters. Do I need a fishing license for a San Francisco fishing charter? Yes, all anglers aged 16 and older need a California fishing license, which can be purchased online or at local tackle shops before the trip.

A Strong Bite, Missed Opportunities, and a Beautiful Day on the Water fishing report coverpicture

August 3, 2026

San Francisco Bay - San Mateo, CA Fishing Report on 3rd Aug, 2026 - 2

Wuz up Today we had early limits of salmon and one bonus striper. We tried for crew fish for a couple hours, scouting out for tomorrow in case the bite dies from the boat traffic and picked up a couple undersized salmon. We also losses a couple and had about 5 drivebyz that didn’t get hooked. It was a beautiful day out there. Let’s see what tomorrow brings. Norcalfish.com 916-708-8323

Warmer Water, Bigger Halibut fishing report coverpicture

June 19, 2026

San Francisco Bay - San Mateo, CA Fishing Report on 19th Jun, 2026 - 1

The water temperature has climbed up to 62 degrees which seems to have made a difference. Last week and the week before, we were seeing temps at 59 and we were getting mostly shaker halibut (undersized). The question was, were we getting shakers because there were only shakers? Or were we getting them because they just bite before the big ones had a chance? Some questions will never be answered, however we were happy to see this shift in better results for our efforts. I hope this showing of larger models continues to improve. I am booked up for next Saturday but Sunday happens to be available.
